Community Service and Action
Vientiane International School empowers learners to be internationally-minded global citizens through its commitment to community service and action.
In the Middle Years Programme
Community service and action is an integral and compulsory component of the Middle Years Programme which prepares learners for Creativity, Action and Service (CAS), a core component of the Diploma Programme (DP). All students are expected to work towards meeting clearly defined community service and action learning outcomes. It aims to develop skills so that when students enter the DP they are able to self–initiate CAS activities and successfully meet the CAS learning outcomes. In the MYP, Secondary teachers sponsor student-initiated service and action activities as part of the after school activity programme so that students can meet the service requirements for the MYP. These service opportunities are offered by Secondary teachers in an area of their interest or as a result of student initiatives.
Creativity, Action and Service (CAS)
Creativity, Action and Service is part of the Diploma Programme. All students in the 11th and 12th grades, whether they are in the full Diploma programme, Certificate programme or VIS-level courses, must complete CAS as a requirement for graduation. CAS activities include after school activities, participation in Student Council and projects organized by students which are of service to the local or global community.
