Primary Co-Curricular Programme

A broad activities programme forms a key part of a students’ education.  Through the co-curricular programme (CCP) at VIS, students are encouraged to explore their interests and talents in the cultural, academic and sporting fields.

Examples of activities offered in the last year include:

Academics
Lao language for Lao and for non-Lao speakers, Model United Nations, French conversation, mathematics homework club and book making.

Sports and games
Taekwondo, soccer, judo, gymnastics, chess, board games, plasticine play, ultimate frisbee, table tennis, yoga, ball hockey, fitness for fun, American football, scrabble, outdoor games, online games, badminton, volleyball.1


Arts and crafts
Sewing, plasticine play, cartoon club, drawing, textiles, fashion design, cake decorating, cooking club.

Secondary Co-Curricular Programme

The Girl Effect:

Do you agree that the world needs a good kick in the pants? Yes? This activity is for you! The Girl Effect is the potential of 600 million adolescent girls worldwide to end poverty for themselves and the world. The Girl Effect is about girls. And boys. It is about making a difference in this world. This activity will unleash the girl effect in our community through fun and exciting activities.

The Green Team’s Mission

Our mission is to raise awareness about environmental issues within the school community. To build a “green spirit” in our school by taking in class actions in making our school environmentally friendly.

Community Garden

This year we will be offering a special co-curricular activity for Grade 5 and Middle School students.  We intend to collaborate with the staff and students of Ban Saphanthong Tai School to create an edible garden in BSS school grounds.  This activity is suitable for students who are eager to build friendships with students at BSS and are also interested in gardening and sustainable environmental practices.

Chess

Improve your analytical skills! Chess is part of the Mathematics curriculum in many schools worldwide and is a wonderful mental exercise.  Open to both beginners and advanced players alike. If possible, inter school friendly competitions can be arranged.

Secondary Choir

Learn to develop your vocal and choral skills in a fun but challenging way.

Model United Nations

MUN: Model United Nations is a great opportunity to get involved in world issues. You will get the opportunity to participate in simulations of the actual United Nations and debate issues, propose solutions and make your mark on the assembly. There are four assemblies that we will run. A fun and exciting way to improve your public speaking skills and make friends all while wearing a suit jacket and tie.

Fitness

Strong, Fit and Fast is a fitness activity for students, staff and parents. Come along to the VIS front field at 6.15am on Thursday mornings for a fun workout with a focus on cardio and body-strength exercises. All abilities and fitness levels are welcome.

Library Love

Is a service activity where we will find ways to improve our library.  It could be anything from tidying our shelves to graphic design to website design.  Anything  that improves the connection of our library to the VIS community.

Chinese Foreign Language (Beginners)

What could be the best way for complete beginners to discover the Chinese language, its culture and habits?

French Foreign Language (Beginners)

Learning basic French (present oneself and family, express likes and dislikes) through fun games and activities.

Badminton

Come and experience one of Asia’s most popular games

SAT

The SAT subject Tests are one-hour tests that assess content knowledge and interpretation and problem-solving skills acquired through high school course work.  SAT Prep. will help you prepare for the exam using test taking skills.

Soccer

Students learn the basics of the world’s most popular game. 

Dance Jam

The dance activity will be a structured program in which you will learn basic dance steps in all different genres.  We will work towards a performance for the WIG Bazaar and an end of semester performance piece based on the dance steps you have learned and through some creative choreography.

Guitar for Everyone

The aim of this group is to come together and learn basic guitar chords and songs and to work towards a performance where we can showcase our skills.  If you want to explore and learn more about how to play the guitar this is the group for you.

Introduction to Graphic Design software

Students learn the basic tools and applications of Adobe Illustrator CS.
Outcome: Improve your skills with number one design software used by graphic artists.

Percussion Ensemble

Bang! Crash! Wallop! Stomp!

Hitting stuff makes you feel great!  In Percussion Ensemble you will learn rhythms & group pieces on pitched & unpitched percussion.  Even on junk.

VIS Community Choir

Is an ensemble for students, parents & teachers from our community.    We sing a whole range of songs from Africa gospel to Glee!  (no experience necessary).

YEYSS (Youth Educating Youth Saturday School) Project

This activity is centered around providing service to our host community.  Students will meet either on a Wednesday or Friday (depending on other commitments) to prepare lessons to deliver to our Sister School students on a Saturday morning.  Lessons will include art, IT, sport, music, dance and English language.  If you are interested in being part of a group who prepares and delivers lessons to our sister school students on a Saturday 10.00 - 2.00pm then sign up.  The Saturday school will operate once a month with the weeks in between for preparation of lessons.  This activity provides opportunities for students to engage in self initiated service.

Senior Volleyball

Practices for Volleyballers in Grades 9-12 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6:30 pm. Preparing for MRISA tournament in early November. Will involve participation in local league.

Junior Basketball

Practices for Basketballers in Grdaes 6-8 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5 pm for boys, and 4-5 Monday and 3-4 pm Wednesdays for girls. Preparing for MRISA tournament in early November. Will involve participation in local league.

Swimming Squad

The swim squad will begin with trials on Tuesday November 4th at the Australian Embassy Recreational Facility commencing at 4 pm. Practices will commence after that on a weekly basis at the same venue

All Academic Support / Tutoring Sessions

This session is to provide academic support or specialist tutoring for students from Grade 6 - 12.
