Vientiane provides a historical and culturally rich setting in which to meet one of the school's major goals: to help our students better understand and appreciate the people, history, culture, and environment of Laos. Frequently, our teachers take advantage of this setting by taking students on educationally appropriate field trips. All students participating in a field trip must have a parent consent form signed and on file at the school. A Study Trip typically involves teachers from several subjects, and students on a study trip work in several subject areas (which may include Art, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) in addition to the content noted above. The study trips are a required part of the Secondary academic program, and all students are expected to participate. On unusual occasions, a student may be unable to participate in travel for health reasons or for another compelling reason approved by the school. In such a case, that student participates in all class work before and after travel, and the student is required to attend school during the days of travel to complete alternative assignments on the study trip curriculum. Class work and assignments are evaluated, graded, and included in determining semester grades and course credits. Study trips provide opportunities for students to acquire qualities and attitudes as described in the IB Learner Profile. The costs of study trips will vary, but total costs usually range between US$150 and US$350 per student. This fee covers all expenses.
