French is the foreign language in the VIS curriculum. Twice a week for Primary students and three to four times a week for Secondary, students study language during the class period called "FEND" (French, English, Dutch or another mother tongue language). During FEND class students take ESL, French or their ,mother tongue language if available to them. French Course Placement We have two French teachers for Secondary French instruction. This means that we can offer two levels of French simultaneously for each group, a beginning level and a more advanced level. The final decision on such placement will be the responsibility of the school’s professional staff. During the year we will be evaluating the effectiveness of this approach, and we will appreciate the participation of students and parents in this evaluation. When the staff determines that a student will benefit more by continuing to focus on the study of English, then the student does not enroll in French.
