Health and Social Education is an integrated program from Grades 6 to 12 that is delivered via one period per week to all students. The program is taught within each homeroom group. This is to encourage a special relationship amongst students and homeroom advisors that forms part of the overall care and concern for our students. The underlying aims of the program set out in a series of books are to encourage students to: • develop mutual respect and support • think about issues and make informed opinions • be aware of and care for others and for the environment • talk about feelings and be sensitive to the feelings of others • be constructively critical and questioning • be responsible for their behavior and learning • think about, assess and develop their potential The program is based on a commitment to equal opportunities for all students, respect for cultural diversity and to prepare students for life in a multi-cultural society. It is structured so as to compliment our IB Physical Education program.
The program develops four major themes in a coherent objectives-based spiral curriculum: • personal relationships • health and safety • social awareness • personal management
