MRISAExtra curricular sporting activity at Vientiane International School is dominated by the Mekong River International Schools Assoication (MRISA). This is an association of like minded schools in the region which gather together at regular intervals to contest sporting tournaments. The schools involved are:
Thailand: International School Eastern Seaboard Cambodia: International School of Phnom Penh, Northbridge International School Vietnam: United Nations International School (Hanoi), South Saigon Intenational School Laos: Vientiane International School
There are 2 exchanges for juniors (grades 6-8) and two for seniors (grades 9-12) every school year, with the hosting rotating amongst the participating schools.
Sports involved are Football, Softball, Volleyball and Basketball
In addition to MRISA the school also offers two large events both involving Basketball.
FRIDAY NIGHT BASKETBALL LEAGUE The Friday night league is held every Friday night at VIS over approximately two months from September to early December. Schools from around Vientiane are invited to participate across four divisions - junior boys and girls, and senior boys and girls.
ANNUAL VIS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT This occurs over a weekend once a year, with the same divisions as the Friday League, again with schools from across Vientiane participating.
