CREDENTIALS Bachelor of Education University of Toronto Honors Degree in Sociology University of Western Ontario Canadian Teaching Certification Patrice Valere is known as "Ms. Patrice" to the students at VIS. She was born in Trinidad, and lived there for four years until her family moved to Canada. Before coming to VIS in 2001, Ms. Patrice taught Grades 3-8 for six years in Canada. She has also worked as a whitewater rafting guide in Canada and Mexico, spent one year as a kayak instructor in Australia, and worked for eight years at a day camp for children. Before becoming our full-time Art teacher, Ms. Patrice served as classroom teacher in two VIS Primary classes. This year, Ms. Patrice will teach from Preschool to Grade 6. Seeing "the smile on a child's face when they have figured it out" is what Patrice likes best about teaching. Patrice is married, and her husband, Azadi, works at Sabaidee.com and co-owns The Spirit House Restaurant. They are the proud parents of two boys: Owen, born in January 2005, and Evan born July 2006. Patrice spends her weekends playing with her family. They enjoy going for walks, reading, drawing, riding their bicycles and swimming. In her free time, Patrice enjoys running, playing touch rugby, yoga and shopping!
