Director Mr. Alexander, or “Mr. A,” as many students call him, is from the state of Michigan in the United States, but also lived in Vermont for 23 years. He is in his second year as Director of VIS. Before coming to VIS last year, Mr. Alexander was the Director of the Pechersk School International, an IB school in Kiev, Ukraine. Prior to his directorship in Kiev, Mr. Alexander was the Primary School Principal at the Copenhagen International School in Denmark. He has also taught Middle School grades at the American International School in Budapest, Primary grades at the Vienna International School in Vienna and Elementary and High School in Vermont for 13 years. Becoming an International Baccalaureate School and building a new school are the two main reasons why Mr. Alexander wanted to come to VIS. He loves the challenges that this brings. Seeing the new school buildings constructed has been exciting to watch during the past year. Mr. Alexander appreciates and enjoys the lifestyle and culture here in Laos. He is especially pleased that he doesn’t have to put snow tires on his car during the Lao “winter” months. Mr. Alexander is divorced with three children, Erin, Jacob and Emily, all who live in the US. He was a professional photographer before becoming a teacher and still takes a lot of photos. He also loves to read – especially about history.
