Vientiane International School

The school runs a variety of after school activities for students in Grades 1 through 12.  These activities, which run from 3:00 - 4:00 PM change four (4) times per year.  Extra-curricular activities include athletics such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, baseball, Tae Kwon Do, and cross-country; non-athletic activities such as beading, chess, stamp collecting, art study hall, construction, carpentry, cooking, dance, and chorus are also offered.  Parents are responsible for arranging transport if an activity takes place at a venue outside school premises.

VIS teachers each sponsor at least two (2) after school activities during the school year.  Their efforts are joined by parents who volunteer to sponsor an activity.  If you wish to share a personal interest or skill, please contact our After School Activity Director.

Each quarter a schedule of activities on offer is sent home, along with a family registration form.  Registration is achieved by lottery.  That is, hopeful registrants for each activity are chosen at random until the name pool reaches the maximum number of students targeted for that activity.  Students who do not get into an activity are notified, and are given preference for this activity if it is offered at a later time.

All extra-curricular activities are free except for non-staff professional instructors or for materials for which there is a nominal charge.  These fees are to be paid directly to the instructor.  A late bus is provided for regular bus riders who elect to stay for after school activities.

VIS is a founding member of LISSA (Lao International Schools Sports Association), formed among local schools with international students for friendly sports competition.  A Friday Night Basketball league, soccer league, cross country race, bicycle race, and other activities are regularly held.
