VIS aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world though intercultural understanding and respect Our programs encourage students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners. The information provided is intended to be a general overview. Art Art aims to enable students to develop curiosity, interest and enjoyment in their creativity and that of others, through exploring, acquiring and developing skills, using the language and principles of art and reflecting, appreciating and evaluating their work and the work of others. DramaDrama is an art form that gives students an opportunity to discover themselves as creative beings. It provides them with a safe context in which to explore issues and emotions. English Language ArtsIn English, students are actively involved in reading, writing, viewing, comparing and discussing texts; verbal, written and visual. They learn how language works and how to use it well so that they are active and informed citizens who contribute to political, social and cultural life. FEND (French, English, Nederlands, Deutch)French uses an audio-visual junior method called ‘Extra 1’. There is a textbook and an activity book but the teacher distributes the documents which are then filed into the students’ folders. The objective is to prepare students to a lower intermediate level in keeping with the school current objectives. French is the only means of communication. The English FEND curriculum will be multi-phased. It will include lessons to consolidate student learning from Social Studies and English courses; activities to develop general literacy skills; and a group audio project to improve reading and speaking skills. IT The IT course is project based, developing IT skills within the context of real world applications. These projects may include building simple websites, creating audio podcasts, developing video productions, desktop publishing and more. MathematicsA focus on empowering students so that they might better investigate, communicate, understand and reflect on mathematical ideas. MusicIn music, we will be reading, composing and discussing music, playing guitars and singing. We aim to view music as an expression of our human experience - an art form composed and performed to describe our place in this world. Physical Education & HealthStudents explore both traditional and non traditional activities with an emphasis on skill learning, movement acquisition and having fun. Personal Health is a new topic looking at Fitness for Health, Drug Use and Abuse and Safety and First Aid ScienceA hands-on activity based introduction to the world’s physical and life processes. Social StudiesStudents develop knowledge and skills while exploring concepts of time, place and space, change, systems and global awareness. Social Studies encourages students to respect and understand the world around them as informed international citizens. Homework in Grade 6 Homework should take approximately one to one and a half hours per day; this is based on expecting regular assignments in “core” subjects: English, mathematics, social studies, science, and a foreign or home language. The emphasis of homework is to reinforce key ideas and concepts learned in class along with developing stronger study habits, time management and organizational skills. Projects and reports may require planned work for periods extending over several weeks. VIS Activities and Resources- Ban Chiang, Thailand Study Trip
