Extra-Curricular Activities at VIS PDF Print E-mail

 MRISA

Extra curricular sporting activity at Vientiane International School is dominated by the Mekong River International Schools Assoication (MRISA). This is an association of like minded schools in the region which gather together at regular intervals to contest sporting tournaments. The schools involved are:

Thailand: International School Eastern Seaboard
Cambodia: International School of Phnom Penh, Northbridge International School
Vietnam: United Nations International School (Hanoi), South Saigon Intenational School
Laos: Vientiane International School

There are 2 exchanges for juniors (grades 6-8) and two for seniors (grades 9-12) every school year, with the hosting rotating amongst the participating schools.

Sports involved are Football, Softball, Volleyball and Basketball

In addition to MRISA the school also offers two large events both involving Basketball.

FRIDAY NIGHT BASKETBALL LEAGUE

The Friday night league is held every Friday night at VIS over approximately two months from September to early December. Schools from around Vientiane are invited to participate across four divisions - junior boys and girls, and senior boys and girls.

ANNUAL VIS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

This occurs over a weekend once a year, with the same divisions as the Friday League, again with schools from across Vientiane participating.

Counseling Services at VIS PDF Print E-mail

Assistance is available from the school's College Counselor for Secondary students and their
families in preparing to apply to universities. Comprehensive catalogues containing
information on universities in Australia, North America and Europe are available in the
Counseling office. Information is also available regarding university admission requirements
and procedures, as well as financial assistance. Parents are encouraged to make an
appointment with the school’s College Counselor to discuss specific universities and colleges,
admission requirements, financial aid, testing, and any other relevant topics. A career
guidance program is offered in the fall of each school year for all students in Grades 9-12.
The purpose of this program is to provide students with assistance in identifying possible
careers and areas of relative college studies.

All students in Grades 9-12 work closely with the College Counselor in a career counseling
program to help them with making career choices and finding and applying to appropriate
universities. This program will also include a “Career Night” for parents and students.

Transport Services at VIS PDF Print E-mail

Bussing from limited neighborhoods in Vientiane is available to transport students to and from the school and home, for an additional charge.  The school owns vans which can seat up to 12 children each.  Vans are equipped with seat belts and all passengers must be seat belted at all times.  An English speaking monitor with a cell phone accompanies each van.  Parents wishing to arrange for the van service should inquire in the school office to find out whether their home is in the covered area, and if there is seating available for their child(ren).   If the van is late in the morning to pick up children or in the afternoon to drop children off, please be patient for a few minutes before calling the bus monitor.  Sometimes traffic or a late rider can make being on time difficult.  However, if you are concerned please call Ms. Paramy, our van coordinator on 313 606 or 312 818.  If there is a significant reason for the van to be late in the afternoon you will be called by our office personnel.

Students who wish to change their bus schedule because of an after school activity must give the van coordinator at least one day’s notice.

CHILDREN RIDING THE VAN MUST HAVE A WRITTEN NOTE FROM THEIR PARENTS IF THEY ARE GOING HOME BY ANY MEANS OTHER THAN THEIR NORMAL VAN.
