Sabaidee! As we pass the midway point in the school year, our community is involved in many important activities. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Greg Smith will be coming to VIS next year as the new Director. Mr. Smith is currently working as a Primary Head at the International School of Beijing in China. We welcome Greg and his family to VIS. Starting in November, 2009 we began the self-study phase for re-accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The self-study involves many staff, parents and students who are working in committees to prepare a major report that will be used for improving all areas of our school. A visiting team of international educators representing CIS/WASC will come to VIS in October 2011 and our report as a guideline for further accreditation. We recently acquired an additional plot of land (.4 hectares) adjacent to our front access. The VIS School Board is in the initial stages making plans for building a swimming pool complex on this land. The addition of a pool and eventually an Arts Center will enable the school to finish the new facilities master plan as outlined in our Strategic Plan. We continue to grow and our enrollment is now over 330 students from 35 countries. We will celebrate our first class eligible for the IB Diploma this year. We are also introducing the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) standardized testing program this year as a pilot program. We expect to continue expanding this program during the next few years. Thanks to a generous grant recently from the MMG LXM Sepon Company we are purchasing many new laptop computers and a new server. We hope you will come visit our new campus when you are in Laos.
